Diwali after Pongal is the second biggest festival in Tamil Nadu. There is always a 10 % additional opening for a biggie during the festival season.
And for any star worth his box-office salt, a Diwali release is prestigious.

Ayngaran, international market leader for Tamil films has announced the release date of 'Velayudham' in its official website! This Ilayathalapathy starrer will see release just one day prior to Diwali, on October 25!

7Aum Arivu

Suriya starrer 7Aum Arivu directed by AR Murgadoss will hit the screens worldwide on Diwali day, which recently had its audio launched. The film, made on a budget of Rs. 84 crore (US$18.73 million), is the most expensive film in Suriya's career till date.

Osthi

STR has also announced that his Dharani directed Dabangg remake Osthi is a “confirmed Diwali 2011 release”, and post-production work has started on the film in Chennai.

Mayakkam Enna
Ace director Selvaraghavan through Twitter had conducted poll among his followers, to select a date for the release of his Dhanush starrer Mayakkam Enna. Selva now says the film is confirmed for Diwali.
